Assistant Minister, Hon. Joeli Cawaki, Receives Courtesy Call from H.E. Verghese Matthews, Non-Resident High Commissioner of Singapore to Fiji

The Assistant Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and National Disaster Management, Hon. Joeli Cawaki, yesterday received a courtesy call from His Excellency Verghese Mathews, the Non-Resident High Commissioner of Singapore to Fiji.

In their meeting, High Commissioner Mathews provided an overview of his work in Fiji and the Pacific and explored areas for possible cooperation in rural development, trade, and disaster management.

High Commissioner Mathews also indicated Singapore’s commitment to human resource development in Fiji through training avenues with the Singapore Cooperation Program.

In response, Assistant Minister Cawaki briefed the High Commissioner on Fiji’s rural development machinery and highlighted some development successes and challenges faced by rural Fijians.

Assistant Minister Cawaki also indicated that the opening of flight passages between Fiji and Singapore will allow Fiji to expand opportunities and further its relationship with Singapore.
