NEW YORK -Fiji presented its Mid-Term Review Report on the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (SFDRR) to the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction at the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), H.E. Mami Mizutori in New York in May, highlighting the progress we have made as a country in integrating DRR into our development processes and systems.

The handover was made by the Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management Hon. Sakiasi Ditoka during the margins of the High-Level Meeting of the General Assembly for the SFDRR Mid-Term Review.

“The Report provides an in-depth analysis and valuable insights into the effective strategies and initiatives implemented by Fiji to mitigate risks and enhance resilience across diverse sectors. By showcasing success stories, identifying challenges, and highlighting areas for improvement, the report aims to inspire and facilitate the exchange of knowledge among countries and organizations committed to disaster risk reduction,” stated Hon. Ditoka.

Ms. Mizutori acknowledged Fiji as one of the few countries worldwide to publish the Sendai Framework Mid-Term Review.

In his remarks, Hon. Ditoka also extended an invitation to the UNDRR Chief visit Fiji later this year to attend the Tsunami National Simulation Exercise.

Her Excellency warmly received the invitation, marking it as a significant milestone for Fiji and the Pacific region to host a high-level delegation from the UNDRR.
