ROTUMA – Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management Hon. Sakiasi Ditoka visited the newly constructed Rotuma Hospital at Ahau in Rotuma today.

Prior to his tour of the facility, Minister Ditoka was provided an overview brief by engineers from the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) currently working on the project.

Hon. Ditoka said today’s visit to the facility was to gain an insight into what the delay had been in the development process and also to see ways in which the Ministry could assist.

“I just want to see how the Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development can help to get things moving along. Now at my level, I can go and speak to the Minister and maybe, our Cabinet members, especially the Honourable Minister to see how we can get this project completed so the people of Rotuma can be taken care of as far as medical programmes are concerned,” Minister Ditoka said

Hon. Ditoka also toured the Rotuma Fuel Saver Solar System Project and the Biosecurity Fumigation Chamber at Ahau.

As part of today’s activities, Hon. Ditoka also made a stopover at the Rotuma High School to meet and speak with the administrator of the school to discuss some of the challenges they had been facing over the years.

Minister Ditoka is currently on his first official visit to the island of Rotuma since taking office as the Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management.
